In 2014 Lok Sabha general elections, Barnala assembly segment had given the AAP candidate from Sangrur parliamentary seat, Bhagwant Mann, a huge lead of 38425 votes over his nearest BJP backed Akali Dal candidate Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa who received 28809 votes in this assembly segment. The Congress candidate came third with 18195 votes in assembly constituency.
