In 2014 parliamentary general elections, the AAP candidate from Anandpur Sahib Lok Sabha seat, Himmat Singh Shergill, had established a lead of 10525 votes over his nearest Congress rival Ambika Soni in the Banga assembly segment. The Akali Dal nominee Prem Singh Chandumajra, who ultimately won the Anandpur Sahib Lok Sabha seat, came third in the Banga assembly constituency with 25064 votes.
