Though in 2014 parliamentary general elections, the Congress candidate from Anandpur Sahib Lok Sabha seat, Ambika Soni, had lost the parliamentary seat, she had secured 35045 votes to establish a lead of 694 votes over her nearest Akali Dal rival Prem Singh Chandumajra in the Balachaur assembly segment. The AAP nominee Himmat Singh Shergill came third with 14604 votes.
