In 2014 Lok Sabha general elections, Amritsar West assembly segment had given the Congress candidate from Amritsar parliamentary seat, Captain Amarinder Singh, a sizable lead of 36957 votes over his nearest BJP rival Arun Jaitley who secured 28085 votes in this assembly segment. The AAP candidate came third with impressive 13739 votes in Amritsar West assembly constituency.
