Though Amritsar North constituency is currently held by BJP, the assembly segment in 2014 Lok Sabha general elections had given the Congress candidate from Amritsar parliamentary seat, Captain Amarinder Singh, a lead of 18726 votes over his nearest BJP rival Arun Jaitley who received 44667 votes in this assembly segment. The AAP candidate came third with 13045 votes in Amritsar North assembly constituency.
