The coming 2017 election to Amargarh assembly seat is poised for a triangular contest among BJP-Akali combine, Congress and AAP. Though represented by the Akali Dal, the assembly segment in 2014 Lok Sabha general elections had given the AAP candidate Harinder Singh Khalsa a lead of 11668 votes over his nearest BJP backed Akali Dal rival Kulwant Singh. Congress nominee Sadhu Singh was relegated to the third place.
