Though represented by the Akali Dal, the Ajnala assembly segment, in 2014 Lok Sabha general elections, had given the Congress candidate from Amritsar parliamentary seat, Captain Amarinder Singh, a slender lead of 356 votes over his nearest BJP rival Arun Jaitley who received 48844 votes in this assembly segment. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate came a distant third with 4643 votes in the Ajnala assembly constituency.
