A keen contest between AINRC and Congress candidates is on cards at Villianur assembly constituency in 2016 assembly elections to the Union Territory of Puducherry.
While the Congress has nominated its PCC president and sitting MLA A. Nammasivayam to contest the Villianur assembly seat, the AINRC has roped in sitting Congress MLA from Mangalam, Theni C Djeacoumar. V. Rajamani is also in the fray on behalf of the AIADMK. Mohammed Habib and S. Mohankumar are facing the voters on behalf of the People’s Welfare Front (PWF) and the BJP respectively.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha general elections, Villianur assembly segment had given a lead of 634 votes to the Congress nominee and then sitting MP V. Narayanasamy over his nearest AINRC rival R. Radhakrishnan who eventually won the Puducherry Lok Sabha seat.
