Going by the votes secured by political parties in the Raj Bhavan assembly segment in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, it can be safely said that AINRC enjoys the edge in this assembly segment. In that election, Raj Bhavan segment had given a lead of 826 votes to the AINRC nominee R. Radhakrishnan over his nearest Congress rival and then sitting MP V. Narayanasamy who received 5296 votes and was followed by AIADMK’s M.V. Omalingam who got 4099 votes.
While the Congress has nominated K. Lakshminarayanan to contest the Raj Bhavan assembly seat in 2016 assembly elections to the Union Territory of Puducherry, the AIADMK fielded former MLA and Rajya Sabha MP P. Kannan. P. Kannan was also the Speaker of the Puducherry Legislative Assembly from 1991 to 1996.
