In the 2014 Lok Sabha general elections, Ozhukarai assembly segment had given a lead of 7692 votes to the AINRC nominee R. Radhakrishnan over his nearest Congress rival and then sitting MP V. Narayanasamy who received 4976 and was closely followed by AIADMK’s M.V. Omalingam who got 4943 votes.
While M.N.R. Balan, who was earlier with AINRC, has been fielded by the Congress to contest the Ozhukarai assembly seat in 2016 assembly election to the Union Territory of Puducherry, AINRC nominated its sitting MLA and Local Administration Minister N G Paneer Selvam.
