The coming 2016 election to Muthialpet assembly seat will witness a triangular fight among DMK, AIADMK and AINRC. While DMK which currently holds the seat has replaced its sitting MLA Nandha. T. Saravanan with former Minister S.P. Sivakumar, Vayyapuri Manikandan is the nominee of the AIADMK. T. Sivakumar is in the fray on behalf of the BJP which is trying to make its presence felt in the constituency. Nandha T. Saravanan has been fielded by AINRC from Lawspet assembly constituency.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the AINRC candidate from the Puducherry Lok Sabha constituency, R. Radhakrishnan, had secured a lead of 186 votes over his nearest AIADMK rival M.V. Omalingam in the Muthialpet assembly segment.
