In the 2014 Lok Sabha general elections, Manavely assembly segment had given a lead of 3997 votes to the AINRC nominee R. Radhakrishnan over his nearest Congress rival and then sitting MP V. Narayanasamy who received 5588 and was followed by AIADMK’s M.V. Omalingam who got 3704 votes. R.K.R. Anantharaman who entered the fray as a nominee of the PMK was placed fourth with 3076 votes.
Needless to say, Manavely assembly seat will witness multi-cornered contest in the 2016 assembly election to the Union Territory of Puducherry. While R.K.R. Anantharaman, who was earlier with PMK, has been fielded by the Congress to contest the Manavely assembly seat, the AIADMK has reposed faith in its sitting MLA P. Purushothaman. Shri Thanga Vikraman is in the fray on behalf of the BJP.
