An intense contest is on cards at Lawspet assembly constituency in 2016 assembly elections to the Union Territory of Puducherry. Apart from the contestants fielded by the AINRC, the Congress, the AIDMK and the CPIM, some Independents, including an AINRC rebel, are in fray.
While N. Rangasamy led AINRC had denied ticket to its sitting Lawspet MLA M. Vaithianathan to contest the seat, the Congress has made V.P. Sivakozhundu its nominee. AINRC has nominated the sitting DMK MLA from Muthialpet Nandha T. Saravanan. M. Vaithianathan has entered the fray as an independent. A. Anand has been chosen by the CPIM to fight them.
