In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the AINRC candidate from the Puducherry Lok Sabha constituency, R. Radhakrishnan, had severed a lead of 1809 votes over his nearest Congress rival and then sitting MP V. Narayanasamy in the Kamaraj Nagar assembly segment.
Kamaraj Nagar assembly constituency will witness multi-cornered contest in the 2016 assembly elections. The Congress has nominated its sitting MLA and former Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam to contest the Kamaraj Nagar assembly seat in 2016 assembly elections to the Union Territory of Puducherry. The Convener for the Peoples Welfare Alliance (PWA), R Viswanathan, has entered the fray on behalf of the Communist Party of India (CPI). P Ganesan and S. Ravichandran are facing the electorate on behalf of the AIADMK and the BJP respectively.
