In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the Kadirgamam assembly segment had given AINRC candidate from the Puducherry Lok Sabha constituency, R. Radhakrishnan, a thumping lead of 9949 votes over his nearest Congress rival.
While the Congress has nominated A. Sivashanmugam to contest the Kadirgamam assembly seat in 2016 assembly elections to the Union Territory of Puducherry, P.R. Somasundharam and MR Govindan are in the fray on the tickets of BJP and AIADMK respectively. J. Ayyanar has been fielded by AINRC. The seat will witness multi-cornered contest among these parties. DMK is not contesting the seat because it is in alliance with the Congress.
