In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the Bahour assembly segment had given AINRC candidate from the Puducherry Lok Sabha constituency, R. Radhakrishnan, a thumping lead of 12199 votes over his nearest Congress rival.
Sitting AINRC MLA and Minister T. Thiagarajan is seeking re-election from Bahour assembly seat in 2016 assembly elections to the Union Territory of Puducherry. With the nomination of T. Thiagarajan, the Bahour assembly constituency will witness a five-cornered contest. While Sivagami has been chosen by the CPIM to contest the election from Bahour assembly constituency, G. Padmanaban and Velmurugan are facing in the fray on behalf of the BJP and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) respectively. The Congress, which is going to the 2016 assembly polls in alliance with the DMK, has fielded N Dhanavelu.
