In 2014 Lok Sabha general elections, the Congress candidate from Manipur Inner parliamentary seat, Thokchom Meinya, had established a convincing lead of 11745 votes over his nearest CPI rival Moirangthem Nara in the Thoubal assembly segment which is currently held by Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh.
