It was a remarkable performance by the BJP which had polled 4372 votes in the Thanga assembly constituency in 2014 Lok Sabha polls, a substantial rise of 4064 from just 308 votes which was received by the party in the 2012 general assembly elections in Manipur. In fact, BJP had secured a lead of 257 votes in this assembly segment in 2014.
