Current Trend

The Uduma Assembly constituency is a traditionally a stronghold of the Left. Barring the 1987 election, when Congress candidate K.P. Kunhikannan won the seat, the LDF has been winning the seat since 1980. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Congress candidate from Kasaragod Lok Sabha constituency T Siddique had secured a handsome lead of 835 votes over his nearest CPIM rival P. Karunakaran in the Udma Assembly segment. Buyed by the performance Congress leader and former Kannur MP K. Sudhakaran has been filed by the party to wrest the seat from the CPIM in 2016 assembly elections. However, the LDF managed to secure a lead of 10,554 votes from the segment in the 2015 local body polls. The LDF has once again fielded its sitting MLA K. Kunhiraman. BJP has nominated Kasaragod district president L. Sreekanth.
