Election Commission of India

The Election Commission of India is an autonomous constitutional authority created for conducting and administering election processes. The commission administers elections to the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and state Legislative Assemblies and Legislative Council in India, and the offices of the President and Vice President in the country. The Chief Election Commissioner heads the Election Commission of India. He/she is usually a member of the Indian Civil Service and mostly from the Indian Administrative Service. This position is very powerful and it is very difficult to remove the authority once appointed by the president, as two-thirds of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha need to vote against him for disorderly conduct or improper actions.

Aiming to offer effetive conduct of elections, Election Commission of India (EC) has announced and launched various apps for citizens, candidate and political parties. One such useful tool for voters is the Voter helpline contact centre. Under this universal toll-free helpline number of Election Commission users can dial 1950 to connect directly to District Contact Centre.
