Raniganj Assembly Elections 2016

Home to a large number of Hindi-speaking populace, Raniganj had given lead to the BJP in the 2014 parliamentary elections. However, the initial enthusiasm that brought the BJP government at the centre has subsided. It will be an uphill task for the party to wrest the seat from the Trinamool Congress which has won six of the 11 wards in the Raniganj municipality in the recently concluded Greater Asansol Municipal Corporation.

Bansa Gopal Chowdhury, a former minister in the Left Front government and also an ex Asansol MP, had represented the assembly seat four times in a row.
