Para Assembly Elections 2016

Since the sitting Congress MLA Umapada Bauri is now with TMC, the party hopes to do well in the coming assembly polls. There will be muti- cornered fight among the candidates of four major parties viz, TMC, CPIM, Congress and BJP though the last one does not stand much of a chance as that party did not garner enough votes in Para as compared to other districts of West Bengal in 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

Umapada Bauri, who has joined Trinamool Congress after quitting the Congress, is the sitting MLA from Para which he won as a Congress member in 2011 by wresting the seat from the CPIM. Umapada Bauri has not resigned his seat after joining TMC, he has been suspended from the party It has to be noted that the Congress was in alliance with the TMC in 2011.

The CPIM has been winning it since 1977. Bilasi Bala Sahis of CPIM had emerged victorious from the seat four successive terms from 1991. In a bye election held in 2009 necessitated due to the resignation of Bilasi Bala Sahis after her election to the Zilla Parishad, the CPMs Minu Bauri won by 40,787 votes by defeat in her nearest rival Charan Bauri of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).

Tribal dominated Para assembly constituency centres on the blocks of Para and Raghunathpur. Located in the Purulia district of West Bengal, Para had a total electorate of 184196. Out of these electors, while 97200 were male voters, the rest women. This Moist hit constituency is reserved for the candidates belonging to scheduled castes.
