Though both CPM and Trinamool Congress are equally poised to win the Karimpur assembly seat, the latter may find it difficult without the support of the Congress which has a strong presence in the constituency. In the last Lok Sabha elections to Murshidabad in 2014, the Congress candidate and sitting MP Abdul Mannan Hossain had lagged behind his nearest CPIM rival Badaruddoza Khan from the segment.
