The coming assembly election to the Gazole assembly constituency in North Bengal will witness keen contest between Congress, CPM, Trinamool Congress and BJP. TMC has gained ground with the joint of the sitting Congress MLA to the party. Though located in an area where late former Congress leader A B A Ghani Khan Chaudhury ruled the roost, Gazole has been traditionally a stronghold of the CPM before 2011. Barring 2011 when the CPM lost the seat, the party has always won the seat by huge margins since 1977.

Gazole assembly seat is presently held by Sushil Chandra Roy who wrested the seat from CPM in 2011 by defeating its candidate Gobinda Mondal by a margin of 5584 votes. While 74654 votes were received by Sushil Chandra Roy, the CPM nominee got 69070 votes and was followed by BJP’s who Prafulla Chandra Sarkar received only 8,514 votes.
Prior to 2011, the CPM had been winning the Gazole assembly seat since 1977.
Reserved for the candidates belonging to scheduled castes, Gazole is composed of the block of Gazole and is one of the seven assembly constituency that comprise the Maldaha Uttar parliamentary constituency.
Before 2011, only candidates belonging to the scheduled tribes were eligible to contest the Gazole assembly seat.
Gazole is one of the twelve assembly constituencies located in the Malda district of West Bengal, The latest figures revealed by the Election Commission estimate that Gazole assembly constituency has a total of 2,16,240 electors. Of them, 110639 are males and 105600 are female voters.
