Bangaon Dakshin Assembly Elections 2016

In the 2015 bye poll to the Bangaon parliamentary constituency of which Bangaon Dakshin is a part, the Trinamool Congress nominee Mamatabala Thakur had established a lead over her nearest BJP rival Subrata Thakur from the assembly segment. Surajit Kumar Biswas is the sitting TMC MLA of Bangaon Dakshin which was won by him in the only election to the seat held in 2011. In that election, he had defeated Anuj Baran Sarkar of the CPM by a comfortable margin of 21889 votes. While Surajit Biswas polled 87677 votes, the CPM nominee received 65788 votes. The BJP candidate Arun Halder secured just 5,243 votes to finish a distant third and lose his deposit.

Located in the North -24 Paraganas district of West Bengal, Bangaon Dakshin came into being before 2011 following the recommendations of the delimitation commission.

One of the seven assembly segments in the Bangaon parliamentary constituency, Bangaon Dakshin covers Chauberia I, Chauberia II, Bairampur, Dighari, Palla and Kalupur gram panchayats of Bangaon block as well as Chandpara, Fulsara, Dooma, Jaleswar II, Ramnagar and Jhaudanga gram panchayats of Gaighata block. Kalyani, Haringhata, Bagda, Bangaon Uttar, Gaighata and Swarupnagar are the other assembly constituencies in the Bangaon Lok Sabha constituency.

In 2011 assembly election, the rural constituency of Bangaon Dakshin had an electorate of 189044, out of which 91552 were males and 97492 were female voters.
