Mannargudi legislative assembly election 2016 seat will witness a straight fight between DMK & AIADMK. Other parties that may influence the voters are BJP, IJK and BSP.
In the last parliamentary elections in 2014, this assembly segment had given the AIADMK candidate K. Gopal a good lead of around 106079 votes. However, the situation in 2016 assembly election is completely different from the general election of 2014.
Banking on the anti-incumbency factor of the ruling AIADMK, the DMK has made significant impact on the voters of this constituency, the AIADMK is holding on to its ground with its slew of welfare schemes.

The Communist Party of India (CPI) has held the constituency for many terms. In the 2011 assembly elections the DMK won the constituency under the leadership of T.R.B. Rajaa. DMK has also won in the years of 1971 and 1989. The Indian national Congress (INC) has only held it once in the year 1967.
This constituency is situated in the Tiruvarur district. This township is known for Rajagopalaswamy temple. The main sources of income in the town are agriculture, metal working and weaving. It is believed that the region around this area has considerable mineral deposits. The principal occupation of people here is agriculture. The constituency is also known for cloth weaving and its metal industries.
