Cumbum legislative assembly election 2016 seat will witness a straight fight between DMK & AIADMK. Other parties that may influence the voters are DMDK, BJP, BSP and IJK.
In the last Parliamentary elections in 2014, this assembly segment had given the R. Parthipan AIADMK candidate a good lead of around 314532 votes. However, the situation in 2016 assembly election is completely different from the general election of 2014.
The DMK has significant impact on the voters of this constituency and has emerged winners since last two assembly elections, but this time the AIDMK has covered its ground with its slew of welfare schemes. It is difficult predict the outcome of the polls and any major political party may claim this seat.

Cumbum assembly segment has been won by various parties. In 2011 assembly elections DMK party member N. Eramakrishnan won the Cumbum seat. In the year 2006 also it was DMK that was successful. Tamil Maninal Congress (TMC) has won this seat in 1996 and 2001. During the past DMK has won the constituency in the 1967 and 1989 elections.
The township of Cumbum is in the municipality of theni district. It is very near to Kerala borders. The town is built around the famous temple of Lord Narayana that came into existence during the time of the Pallava rule. Cumbum has 3,417 Male voters and 3,244 Female voters. The category of voters that play an important role in every election from this constituency is Workers, Cultivators, Agricultural labourers and house hold industries. This time too they have their roles cut out.
