Bodinayakkanur legislative assembly election 2016 seat will witness a straight fight between DMK & AIADMK. Other parties that may influence the voters are the BJP and the BSP. At present O. Panneerselvam of AIADMK is the sitting MLA from Bodinayakkanur .

In 2011 assembly elections, AIADMK party won the constituency under the leadership of Panneerselvam O with 95235 votes. Then S. Lakshmanan of DMK party polled 65329 votes. The DMK party has won the assembly elections from this constituency thrice. The Indian National Congress has also won this constituency in 1967 and 1984.

The principal business of this region is agriculture and Bodinayakkanur Taluk is an agricultural town with lot of farm lands.
