DMK has been holding Athoor sear for long. It has won in the 2006 to 2011, 1996, 1989, 1971, and 1967 under the leadership of V.S.S.Manichettiar, Nachiappan A. M. T. and I. Periasamy respectively. I. Periasamy has won four times in Athoor. V.S.S.Manichettiar is the oldest leader of DMK in Athoor. ADMK has won once and ADK four times in Athoor.
Athoor is a village in the Dindigul district. It is located between Dindigul and Bathalagundua. Rice cultivation is the major occupation in this region. A major life line of the village is the Kodaganar River which runs through the village, joining the Kaveri River. Athoor has 79,780 male voters and 80,858 voters.
