Alandur legislative assembly election 2016 seat will witness a straight fight between DMK & AIADMK. Other parties that may influence the voters are BJP, BSP, PBM and JMM.

S. Ramachandran of DMDK party won the constituency in the assembly elections of the year 2011. DMK party has won in the previous assembly election of 2006 and three other times. The ADK party has won three assembly elections in this constituency. ADMK party has only won this constituency once in the assembly elections of 2001.
The constituency of Alandur comes under the jurisdiction of Kancheepuram district. The economy here does not depend totally on agriculture and has developed industrial area.
