In 2014 Lok Sabha polls Chandel assembly constituency had given a huge lead of votes to the Nagaland based Naga People's Front over its nearest rival Congress, which had received 9487 votes. However, the Congress had managed to win the Outer Manipur parliamentary seat of which Phungyar is a part.
