Though the Thrissur is being represented by the Congress MLA Therambil Ramakrishnan in the Kerala assembly for the last five successive terms, the LDF edged past the UDF by a thin margin of 103 votes in the 2015 local bodies elections. While the LDF polled 63,955 votes, the UDF got 63,852 votes. The BJP also became a force to reckon with by garnering 31,505 votes. The resentment of the Catholic Sabha can dent the prospects of the UDF.
