Sitting CPI legislator Geeta Gopi is once again in the fray as a candidate of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) for the Nattika assembly election in 2016. K.V. Dasan of the Congress is the nominee of the United Democratic Front (UDF). Under the seat sharing deal with the BJP, Nattika will be contested by Bharath Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS), a constituent of the NDA.

Geeta Gopi of the Communist Party of India is the sitting MLA of Nattika which she won in the 2011 Assembly election by defeating UDF backed independent candidate Vikas Chakrapani by a margin of 16054 votes. While Geeta Gopi polled 64555 votes, Vikas Chakrapani, son of former Communist leader C.K. Chakrapani, received 62596 votes and was followed by BJP’s Sarju Thoykkavu who secured 11144 votes.
Earlier in 2001 T.N. Prathapan of the Congress wrested Nattika assembly seat from the veteran CPI leader and former Minister Krishnan Kaniyamparambil who was elected in 1987, 1982 and 1996. T.N. Prathapan was also elected in 2006 with a majority of 9,686 votes.
Nattika is one of the seven assembly segments the combination of which goes on to create the Lok Sabha constituency of Thrissur. Manalur, Ollur, Guruvayur, Thrissur, Irinjalakuda and Pudukkad are the other six assembly segments located within the Thrissur Lok Sabha constituency.
Nattika assembly constituency is fomed by the areas covered by the gram panchayats of Cherpu, Anthikadu, Paralam, Valappad, Chazhur, Nattika,Thannyam and Thalikkulam.
Reserved for the candidates belong to the scheduled castes. Nattika is one of the two reserved assembly constituencies in the Thrissur district. In 2011 assembly election the constituency, there was a total electorate of 179535. Of them, 96999 were females and 82536 were men.
