A bastion of the Left parties, Nadapuram has been electing CPI candidates since 1970. Barring the 1960 assembly elections, all the elections have been won by the LDF since the inception of the constituency. The coming 2016 election is no different and is all set to elect CPI candidate. Six of the ten panchayats within the constituency are ruled by LDF. The BJP is yet to emerge as a serious contender for the Nadapuram seat.

Nadapuram assembly constituency is currently held by CPI’s E.K. Vijayan who won the seat in 2011 by defeating V.M. Chandran of Congress by a margin of 7546 votes in a bipolar contest. In that election while E.K. Vijayan polled 72078 votes, the UDF nominee received 64532 votes and was followed by BJP’s Prakash Babu who secured 6058 votes.
CPI leader Benoy Viswom who won the elections to the Nadapuram assembly seat in 2001 and 2006 was a minister the LDF government which ruled from 2006 to 2011.
Located in the Kozhikode district, Nadapuram assembly constituency is formed by the areas covered by the panchyaats of Kavilumpara, Kayakkodi, Narippatta, Maruthongara, Thuneri, Valayam, Chekyad, Edachery, Nadapuram and Vanimel.
Nadapuram is one of the seven assembly segments falling under the Vadakara Lok Sabha constituency. Perambra, Thalassery, Kuthuparamba, Vadakara Kuttiadi and Quilandy are the other six constituencies within the Vadakara parliamentary constituency.
In the 2011 assembly election to the Nadapuram constituency the constituency had a total electorate of177993. Of them 87115 were males and 90878 were female voters.
