Seven of the twelve grama panchayats that fall in the Devikulam constituency are ruled by LDF. In the last Lok Sabha election in 2014, the LDF-supported candidate belonging to the High-range Protection Council had secured a lead of 9,121 votes in the Devikulam Assembly segment. The AIADMK and the BJP enjoy significant clout among the electorate in the constituency. Pengal Otrumai, the newly formed outfit of the women tea estate workers, is also a factor in the constituency.

Devikulam is currently represented in the Legislative assembly of Kerala by S. Rajendran who retained the seat in 2011 by defeating A.K. Mani of the Congress by a majority of 4078 votes in a bipolar contest. While 51849 votes were polled by S. Rajendran, A.K. Mani, who had earlier represented the seat successively for three terms, secured 47771 votes.
S Rajagopal, who entered the contest on behalf of BJP, was relegated to the third place with just 3582 votes.
In 2006 too, S. Rajendran had trounced A.K. Mani.
Reserved for the candidates belonging to the scheduled castes, Devikulam assembly constituency is formed by the areas covered by 12 grama panchayats. The constituency has a sizable population of Tamil tea estate workers. Female voters outnumber males in the Devikulam. The constituency has a total electorate of 1,63,128 voters, of which 81978 are women and 81,150 are males.
Devikulam is one of the seven assembly segments falling under the Idukki LOk Sabha constituency. Thodupuzha, Idukki, Udumbanchola, Peermade, Muvattupuzha and Kothamangalam are the other six constituencies with the Idukky parliamentary constituency.
