Exotic kannada girl Rakshita was brought up in Mumbai. Her father, B.C. Gowri Shankar, was a popular cinematographer in Kannada and her mother, Mamatha Rao, too acted in a few Kannada films. She joined the film industry after her father's death at her young age. Though her actual name is Spandana, she changed it to Rakshita after joining films.
She became famous after the kannada film, Appu, which was a major success.
Though she is getting offers in various languages, she has not yet decided to accept these offers as her first love is with Kannada films.
Her recent release in Kannada, `Kalasipalya,' with Darshan is heading towards a silver jubilee and still running to packed houses. She acted in the Kannada and Telugu versions of a film Dum and has the rare distinction of doing the same role three times.
She is busy finishing shooting for two of her Kannada films with Darshan and Anirudhdh in the lead - "Mandya" and an untitled project, respectively. With Thananam Thananam for director Kavitha Lankesh she has three other films for this year. Sunatargali, Ninelle Naanelle and Hubballi.
Rakshitha is the first actress to sign a brand assignment.
The glamour girl of Kannada screen, Rakshitha, has been named as a brand ambassador for Rodeo Drive, a well-known watch bazaar in Bangalore.
