Mallika Sherawat, the first Indian woman who got an offer to pose nude for Playboy magazine (but she turned down the offer, citing her morals and upbringing) is a successful Indian actress with sex symbol tag. Dropping clothes in Indian cinema is not an acknowledged-theory. But Mallika Sherawat has virtually dropped her clothes in her movies. At 21, Mallika was on the cover page of an international magazine, Snoop, and the Indian edition of Cosmopolitan. And all this before her debut film had even hit the marquee. Truly dazzling girl, Mallika made it to reach the screens of Indian Cinema as an actress who neither has a film background-family nor Godfather!
Mallika Sherawat is basically from a small town (Rohtak in Haryana), started her career as a small time model and actress after her education from Delhi. Although her conservative father was dead against her decision to become a sex symbol, Mallika challenged his wishes and moved to Mumbai, the tinsel town of India to make herself one among the world of showbiz. Mallika walked out from not only from her parent's family, but walked out from her marriage with Jet Airways pilot Captain Karan Singh Gill in Delhi to pursue her dream. Mallika, then called Reema, had married Karan soon after she completed her graduation from Miranda House, Delhi University and was working as a part time airhostess.
Though Mallika debuted in a small role in Vashu Bhagnani's 'Jeena Sirf Mere Liye', it was 'Khwahish' and her dare bare attitude with co-actor 'Himanshu Mallik' that brought her fame in Bollywood. Next movie was Mahesh Bhatt's 'Murder' directed by Anurag Basu, put Mallika in an unusual / unconventional act. The movie 'Muder' released in the year 2004 gave her huge popularity as people started talking her acting skills along with the 'bold-scenes' in the movie. She acted in a small role in the Hollywood movie 'The Myth' starring Jackie Chan. Following that she was given a chance to attend the Cannes festival, to promote the movie. She was spoken much for her sexy outfit in the festival.
But for unfortunate reasons, she couldn't make her stand in Bollywood with more films. But it's a gossip that she is not being offered more movies as she is finicky in choosing good roles to break her 'sex symbol' tag and in her endeavors in that context is now acting in 'south-Indian' movies with the top heroes. 'Making to cine-industry and breaking the sex-symbol'….wow…. really a courageous girl to take challenges….hats-off Mallika!
