Karthi Biography

Tamil film actor Karthi belongs to a family associated with films. He is the younger son of actor Sivakumar and younger brother of Surya Sivakumar.

Karthi completed his education from St. Bedes School, Chennai and graduated in Engineering from Crescent College.  He did masters from the US and also courses in basic filmmaking there before joining Tamil film industry.

Karthi began his film career as an assistant director of Mani Rathnam in Aayitha Ezhuthu and Yuva. Mani Ratnam offered him lead role in Aayitha Ezhuthu, but he refused, the role went to Siddarth Narayan.

Karthi top grossing film was Paruthiveeran, released in 2007. In this film his performance was highly appreciated and got positive review from the media.   

He then acted in Aayirathil Oruvan released in 2010. This film was a fantasy-adventure directed by Selvaraghavan. He was highly applauded for his superb performance in this movie which was commercially very successful.

Karthi‘s other successful films include; Paiyaa (2010), NaanMahaanAlla (2010), Siruthai (2011) and Saguni (2012) all made him superstar in the Tamil cinema.

Karthi grabbed Vijay Award for Best Debut Actor and Tamil Nadu State Film Special Prize Award for Best Actor for the film Paruthiveeran in the Year 2007.

  His latest films are All In All Azhagu Raja in Tamil,   Biriyani in Telugu and Kaaliin Tamil.

Karthi is also active in social welfare activities. He motivated his admirers through a social welfare club "MakkalNalaMandram".

 In 2011, he promoted awareness about lysosomal storage disease. Karthi is married to Ranjani Chinnasamy.
