Electoral History of Hisua Constituency in Bihar

The largest of the five assembly seats in Nawada district, Hisua is currently held by Anil Singh of the BJP retained the seat by defeating his nearest rival Anil Mehra of the Lok Janashakti Party (LJP) by a margin of 3978 votes in the last assembly elections to Bihar held in 2010. In that election while Anil Singh polled 43110 votes, the LJP candidate secured 39132 votes and was followed by Nitu Kumari of the Congress who received 20820 votes.

In 2010, the Lalu led Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) did not field its candidate because Hisua was allotted to the LJP under the seat sharing arrangement among them.

Nitu Kumari is the daughter-in-law of Aditya Singh who had been winning the seat since 1980 till 2005. While Aditya Singh emerged victorious from the seat as an Independent in 1980, 1985 and 2000, his wins in 1990, 1995 and the February 2005 came on the ticket of the Congress. A strongman of Nawada, Aditya Singh had also served as the minister of state for animal husbandry. Contesting on the ticket of the Congress in the October/November in 2005, he lost to Anil Singh by a margin of 16467 votes. It is very much to the point to underline the fact that Bihar went to the assembly elections twice in 2005 because the earlier one held in February threw hung assembly necessitating the holding of the second assembly polls in the month of November of the same year.

In 1977, the Hisua assembly seat went in favour of Babu Lal Singh of the Janata Party who trounced Aditya Singh by a margin of 243 votes.

Hisua is the birthplace of Bihar's first chief minister Sri Krishna Sinha and was a bastion of the Congress in the earlier part of the electoral politics.

Hisua is one of the six assembly segments the combination of which goes on to create the parliamentary constituency of Nawada currently held by Union minister Giriraj Singh of BJP who had won the seat in 2014 Lok Sabha elections by defeating Raj Ballabh Yadav of the RJD.
